The Theme: Perseverance

In Unbroken, Louie walks through the fire more than once. He survives war, starvation, imprisonment, abuse, and addiction. Perseverance is the trait that makes him a good soldier, a strong man, and more than anything else, a survivor.

Through his suffering and triumph, Louie becomes a symbol and a beacon of hope for the anguished. When he becomes a speaker, he uses his tale of perseverance to show others that they can do the same. Even indirectly, his story in Unbroken proves to thousands just how durable the human spirit can be.
