An
adjustable-height computer workstation is located near the Reference
Desk.
This
workstation consists of a 24-inch monitor, a flatbed scanner,
and a PC loaded with a variety of software, including Kurzweil
3000, OmniPage Pro, MS Office, and Internet Explorer.
This computer does not require a login and password.
An additional installation of
the Kurzweil software is available on the computer in Room
108 to the left of the Sun Porch entrance.
Books
that have been scanned onto a CD can be read out loud by the Kurzweil 3000 software on these machine. More
on using Kurzweil 3000.
Schreiner staff, students and faculty have access to a variety of audiovisual equipment including cameras, fixed and portable media presentation systems, digital video cameras, still cameras, digital video and still editing software and workstations, video and audio duplication services.
Personalized instruction is also available from Instructional Technology staff.
This equipment can be reserved 24 hours in advance by contacting Dan Brown at 792-7431 (ext.431 on Campus) or 739-1774 (Cell Phone) in Weir 008.
The audiovisual equipment found in the Library is intended for in-library use only.
Computers
For assistance with

The
library has one Internet access-only computer located
near the Reference
Desk. MS Office software is NOT available on this computer. A login and password is required only to print from this machine.
An accessible computer/scanner station is located
near the Reference

CD burners are only available on the computers in the MILL which do not have access to the academic network. Either email yourself the file or use a jump drive.

Copiers and Copy Cards
The library has two copiers and a copy card dispenser located in a small room near the Periodicals Reading area. One copier has a sheet
feeder and the other a "book minder" top. For assistance with the copiers, ask at the Reference Desk.
Copies cost 10 cents per page (two-sided copies cost 20 cents) and the coin machines can make change for ones, fives and tens. Coins, except for pennies and foreign coins, can also be used.
The only cards that can be used in these copiers are those purchased from the card dispenser in this room. Copy cards cost $1.00 and are charged and recharged on the same machine.
For your convenience, $5.00 copy cards may also be purchased at the Circulation Desk.
The
Library has no facilities for making transparencies. These may be printed on a laser printer in the Computer
Lab in Dickey Hall.
Fax
Services
Schreiner
students, faculty, & staff may send and receive faxes
at the Circulation/Reserve Desk.
Incoming
faxes - $1.00 for the first page (starting
with the cover sheet), and 5 cents for each page thereafter.
Outgoing
local faxes - $1.00 for the first 3 pages and
5 cents for each page thereafter. Cover sheet is not
included.
Outgoing
long distance faxes - $1.00 for the first page and 5
cents per page thereafter. Cover sheet is not included.
File Storage and Storage Media
USB/jump/flash drives are preferred to diskettes or CDs and are available for purchase at the Campus Bookstore.
Schreiner students that
have logged in to the academic network have a personal network space in which to save
their files.
At
the Circulation/Reserve Desk,
Schreiner students may check out microphones for 3 hour in-library use only.
Multimedia and Instructional Learning Lab
The
Multimedia and Instructional Learning Lab is located
near the Reference Desk.
This room houses a variety of computers, a scanner, and some resource materials.
The computers are loaded with creative and productivity software.
There is wireless access to the internet.
Printing is not available in the MILL, bring a USB drive to save your work and take it with you. You may also email smaller files to yourself via an Internet email account.

The library computers are connected to multiple printers in a variety of locations. Review the printer selection options carefully BEFORE printing anything.
You must choose a Library printer to print material in the library.
Always use Print Preview to view the document BEFORE sending it to a printer.
Always review the list of printers available on the network.
Not all software has the same printing options. Know your software capabilities.
Tips on protecting your work from loss:
Replace all of your floppy disks and CDs with a removable USB drive.
Save early and save often when creating a document.
Know exactly where you are saving your work.
Save a copy of the document to a removable drive and/or your SU network space.
Email a copy of the document to yourself before printing it out.
The library's printers are located at the Circulation/Reserve Desk near the entrance to the building.
Printouts cost 5 cents per page for black and white and 15 cents per page for color.
Printing accounts for students begin with a
five dollar balance at the start of each semester. When this amount is expended, students may add monies to their account by asking for assistance at the Reference Desk.
Community patrons must obtain a temporary login
at the Circulation/Reserve Desk to use a computer to make printouts.
If a computer does not require a login, users must pay for printouts with cash or check at the Circulation/Reserve Desk.
The
Library has an overhead projector and a computer projector available for use in the
building by the Schreiner community.

Reservable Rooms - Technology Available
Room
160, a small, reservable classroom, located at the end
of the north hallway,
is equipped with a lockable lectern, a laptop with a wireless
mouse and speakers, and a DVD/VCR and LCD ceiling-mounted
projector system with remote control. It also has a projection
screen, a "smart" board, two white boards, a desktop
PC station, and videoconferencing equipment.
If Room 160 is not reserved,
students may use this room for viewing videos and DVDs.
The Scarle Philips Room,
a large meeting room, is equipped with a lectern,
a laptop with a wireless mouse and speakers, and a DVD/VCR
and LCD ceiling-mounted projector system with remote control.
The Sun Porch Electronic
Classroom is equipped with 12 networked computers loaded
with Microsoft Office, Windows XP, Internet Explorer plus
additional software. A ceiling-mounted projector, a
pull-down projection screen, and a portable instructor's
station with laptop are also available. Inquire at the Reference Desk for more
information.
Scanning
Equipment
The
Library has multiple scanner stations available for use by
the Schreiner community.
The Library also has a UMAX 11 x 17-inch large format scanning station with film/slide
scanning head, and a Minolta PS 7000 open-faced black and white document scanning
station. These scanners may only be operated by Library staff members.

Desk.
