Battery/Power Status top
  • Use of the laptop's AC adapter and an electrical outlet is strongly recommended although laptop batteries may power the machine for a period of 1 to 2 hours.
  • If you get a warning from the laptop that the battery is running out, immediately plug in the AC adapter to the laptop and to an electrical outlet. You may then continue working.
Network Availability top
  • Wireless access for Schreiner staff, students and faculty only is available 24 hours a day throughout the Library's public areas and via the campus wireless network.
  • Student laptops do not allow dial-up access to the Internet.
  • If you should see this error message -- "Unable to locate the server www.'sitename'.com. Please check the server name and try again." the laptop may have lost its network connection.
    • Try a few other web sites to see if the same error message appears.
    • If it does, restart the laptop and try again.
    • Moving to another spot may also improve the network access.
Saving Your Work/Printing top
  • To prevent loss, it is recommended that an Internet e-mail account be used to send work to a schreiner.edu account. It may then be printed from any PC.
    1. Open your Schreiner e-mail or other Internet e-mail account.
    2. Create a message and attach the saved file to the e-mail message
    3. Send the message to yourself and check that it has arrived before closing the e-mail account.
  • If the file has not yet been saved, you may copy and paste it into the e-mail message body instead of attaching it.
